LimiX - The innovative Flow
Control Technology
Drug delivery to the lungs with commercial aerosol devices is characterized by a high variability of deposition. A recent in-vivo study has shown that total lung deposition can vary from 18 to 96% even for the same device, depending on the breathing of the patient.
In order to keep a slow flow, Activaero has developed a mechanical valve that regulates the flow to a constant level during inhalation, regardless of the inspiratory pressure.

LimiX: the first flow limitation valve that really controls the flow rate
Usage
- Suitable for every device that is in development
- Benefit for inhalation devices with non optimal particle size (reduction of extra thoracic deposition)
Benefits
- Continuous inhalation flow controlled by a mechanical valve (patented)
- Reduction of extra thoracic deposition High intra thoracic deposition for your inhalation device
- Pure mechanical driven, no electronics
The valve can be integrated in all kinds of inhalation devices. It only has to be installed in the air duct, for the inspiratory air. It is build as an air duct with a small cross-section. With increasing flow the pressure drop increases and causes the flexible side wall move into the air duct.
The dimension of the duct and the side wall can be optimized for different flow-rates.
